Triquetra

This is an early symbol used by Christians as a sign of the Holy Trinity. The three equal arcs (composed exactly of three overlapping Viseca piscis symbols) express eternity in their continuous form, indivisibility in their interweaving, and their center is a triangle, ancient Trinity symbol.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”                (Matthew 28:19)

Fish

The first letter of each Greek word for “Jesus Christ, God’s son, savior” spell the Greek word for “fish”. The Ichthys symbol was used by the early Christians as a secret sign to designate themselves as believers in Jesus.
Fish are mentioned and given symbolic meaning several times in the Gospels. Mark 6:31-44, Matthew 13:47-50, John 21:11, Matthew 17:24-27. Several of Jesus' twelve disciples were fishermen.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." ( Matthew 4:19)

Latin Cross

The Latin Cross is always a reminder of our Lord’s redemption of mankind through His sacrifice for our sins. Although there are many different forms of the Cross, the Latin Cross is the most widely used form among Christians and represents Jesus’ crucifixion.

It was rare for the very early Christians to use the cross as a sign because it reminded of the gruesome way of execution but in a book written in 204 AD by Tertullian (a prolific early Christian author who lived c.160-225 AD) we learn that Christians already made the sign of the cross on their foreheads.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
            (1 Corinthians 1:18)

(1. Korinther 1:18)

Six-Pointed Star of David

The Six-Pointed Star of David is a reminder of Israel’s greatest and most loving king, who died after reigning 40 years, wrote psalms, ancestor of Jesus. It is the symbol of the Hebrew people.

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.”
                        (Psalm 8: 3-5   A psalm of David)

The explanation of the Star of David seen on a huge wood carving of the nativity in “Church of our Lady” in Bruges, Belgium: It consists of two triangles which are crossing each other. "One triangle strives upward to power and dominance, the other one bows down in humble service. In the same way Christ comes from above, the Father to us on Christmas night."

Butterfly

The Butterfly is an ancient symbol of the resurrection of Christ. In its life in the cocoon it appears to be dead. And then mysteriously it comes to life and breaks through its prison. In its transformation it becomes a beautiful creature that is free to fly in any direction it wishes.
At the birth of Jesus we remember that Jesus was more than a human person. He broke through the limitations of the flesh, and was raised to new life. We remember also that, like him, we are born to be free.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
(2 Corinthians 5:17)

(2. Korinther 5, 17)
